In our universe, we acknowledge the individuality of every student; a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t resonate with us. Instead, we present customized content and materials, meticulously adjusted to sync with each student’s distinct learning style. Our ultimate mission? To arm students with the very tools they need to excel academically, and to unleash the full magnitude of their potential. We pledge ourselves wholeheartedly to fashioning a personalized, immersive academic voyage for each student, one that charts a course towards the academic triumph they so richly deserve.

Our Formula

We like to segment the learning journey into 3 steps: Grow, Excel and Transform

  1. Grow: This is where the journey begins. “Grow” represents the foundational stage of learning and development. It signifies the process of expanding one’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. At Kion Coaching, we believe that every student has the potential to grow academically and personally. We nurture this growth by providing a supportive and enriching learning environment where students can explore new concepts, discover their strengths, and continuously expand their horizons.

  2. Excel: As students progress in their academic journey, the next step is to “Excel.” This goes beyond mere growth; it embodies the pursuit of excellence. We encourage our students not only to reach their full potential but to surpass it. “Excel” reflects our commitment to helping students achieve outstanding results, whether it’s acing exams, mastering challenging subjects, or surpassing their own expectations. We equip them with the tools, knowledge, and skills to shine brightly in their academic pursuits.

  3. Transform: The pinnacle of our motto, “Transform,” signifies the profound and lasting changes that occur through education. It’s about more than just academic achievement; it’s a holistic transformation encompassing personal growth, confidence building, and the development of critical life skills. We aspire to empower our students to become well-rounded individuals who are not only successful academically but also capable of making a positive impact on the world. “Transform” embodies the enduring change that our students experience, setting them on a trajectory for lifelong success and fulfillment.

In essence, “Grow, Excel, Transform” is a journey that begins with personal growth, elevates to the pursuit of excellence, and culminates in a profound transformation. It represents the continuous cycle of learning, improvement, and self-discovery that defines the Kion Coaching experience. We are dedicated to guiding our students through each stage of this journey, helping them unlock their full potential, and supporting them as they grow into confident, accomplished individuals ready to make a meaningful impact on their future and the world around them.

What inspired you to become a tutor?

When I reflect on my earlier years, I wasn’t labeled as the ‘smart’ kid, nor did I possess a strong work ethic. My journey towards tutoring stemmed from my own struggles. My parents enrolled me in various tutoring programs to realign my academic path. Throughout that process, I encountered numerous tutors, many of whom didn’t resonate with me, and I grew to dislike learning. However, amidst those experiences, there was one exceptional tutor who revolutionised my perspective.

This particular tutor didn’t just teach; they transformed the learning experience. They made lessons captivating, tailored the approach to my pace of understanding, and, most importantly, fostered a genuine comprehension of the subjects. It was this tutor who played an instrumental role in shaping my academic trajectory—from floundering in my initial science test to delving into the depths of astrophysics today. Their guidance was pivotal, propelling me to where I stand academically.

This profound impact inspired my aspiration to become an educator. I aim to emulate that guiding light for other students, offering direction, support, and a transformative educational experience, just as I received.

What is your favourite subject to teach and why?
While my primary focus lies in teaching mathematics and science—fields that align with my academic background centred around mathematics and physics—I find tremendous fulfilment in teaching English to students. It allows me to delve into a different realm of education, tapping into the nuances of language, literature, and communication. Engaging with students in English lessons provides a unique opportunity to nurture creativity, expression, and critical thinking, which are invaluable skills regardless of the subject being taught. Teaching English offers a refreshing change of pace, enabling me to explore diverse facets of learning and interact with students in a way that maths and science cannot.

What is your teaching style like?
My teaching style is as fluid as water, adapting to the individual learning needs of each student. I strongly believe that every student possesses a unique learning style, and I tailor my approach to accommodate that diversity. For those who benefit from practical examples, I focus on demonstrating problem-solving techniques. Alternatively, for students who thrive on conceptual understanding, I emphasise exploring various interpretations and deeper insights into the subject matter. Just as Bruce Lee’s quote suggests, my teaching flows like water—flexible and ever-responsive to the needs of my students.

What is the most interesting thing you’ve learned recently?
Lately, I’ve been delving into the art of storytelling through different mediums. Exploring how stories are crafted, whether through writing, film, or even interactive experiences, has been a fascinating journey. Understanding how narratives shape our perceptions, convey emotions, and connect us on a profound level has resonated deeply with me. It’s been an insightful exploration into the power of storytelling and its ability to inspire, evoke empathy, and create meaningful connections between people.

What is your favourite hobby outside of tutoring?
Outside of tutoring, my fascination revolves around collecting watches. The artistry and precision embedded in every timepiece, paired with their captivating histories and unique stories, deeply resonate with me. It’s more than a mere timekeeping device; it’s owning a fragment of intricate engineering and heritage delicately wrapped around my wrist. There’s an allure in creating my narrative with the scratches and scuffs acquired along the way, and in attributing sentimental meaning to each watch, purchased for various occasions, each carrying its own cherished significance.

What is your favourite book or movie?
When it comes to my favourite movie, ‘Limitless’ takes the top spot. I find myself revisiting it every year; there’s something captivating about the storyline that keeps me coming back. The cinematography in the film is exceptional, adding an extra layer to the thrilling experience. Exploring the concept of unlocking unparalleled mental abilities through a mysterious drug, and the subsequent journey and consequences, fascinates me each time I watch it and resonate with my own pursuit of achieving my full potential.

What is a trial session like?

A trial session with me seldom follows a set pattern; however, they all share a common goal: ensuring you don’t have to return. It might sound counterintuitive, but my aim during a trial session is to equip the student with enough knowledge and strategies to independently navigate their challenges without relying on a tutor. For those struggling with tests, I break down the essential steps for success. If understanding a specific topic proves difficult, we start from the basics and explore alternative visualisations to help grasp it from a fresh perspective.

Ultimately, my goal is to foster a mindset where students feel confident and equipped to navigate their academic obstacles without constant external assistance. I believe in cultivating not just short-term solutions, but enduring skills that pave the way for sustained success.

Why do you only teach online?

I’ve chosen to focus on online teaching primarily for its efficiency in accommodating more students within a shorter timeframe. Regardless of the teaching mode—be it in-person or online—I’ve observed that my teaching style effectively communicates the intended message. Opting for online sessions eliminates travel time, enabling me to conduct back-to-back classes seamlessly. In contrast to spending a full day seeing around 5 or 6 students in person, including travel time, teaching online allows me to double that capacity and offer increased support.

While I aspire to introduce group classes in a physical setting eventually, for now, the online platform maximises accessibility and convenience for both students and myself. It’s a step towards expanding my reach and providing comprehensive support to a wider student base until the time is right to venture into physical group sessions.”
